International Seminar in Stuttering and Behavior Therapy
November 1 through November 4, 1966
Highlands Inn
Carmel-By-The-Sea, California
Sponsored by the Vocational Rehabilitation Administration
The past few years have witnessed the development of a growing interest in both the theoretical and clinical applications of behavior therapies to the problem of stuttering. In an effort to consolidate ideas, exchange information and point up the utility of such theoretical and therapeutic programs to stuttering behavior, the Vocational Rehabilitation Administration has awarded a grant for the establishment of an International Seminar in Stuttering and Behavior Therapy.
OBJECT AND SCOPE OF THE SEMINAR
The object of the Seminar is to bring together approximately forty persons for a high level four day work seminar in stuttering and behavior therapy. The program will include individuals who are recognized leaders and contributors in the areas of behavior therapy and stuttering. Since much of the important work has been conducted in countries other than the United States, prominent individuals from a number of these countries will also participate in the Seminar. The format of the Seminar will include approximately twenty papers which will be integrated with discussion, and question and answer periods. The four major topic areas will include theory, therapy, research and case history presentations. In addition, there will be special reports, special addresses, and demonstrations of techniques.
The Complete Program is available in PDF format.
SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS
The program had a representation of varied interests and backgrounds. Clinical, research, and theoretical interests and interpretations were presented by both speech pathologists and psychologists. Many different aspects of stuttering and behavior therapy were examined from various points of view. Some of the major issues focued on items such as the nature of behavior therapy and behavior theory; stuttering; and the research of behavior therapy, theory and stuttering.
