S. Waldo Coleman
S. Waldo Coleman died at the age of 90 on March 11, 1972, at Stanford Hospital, Stanford, California. Coleman was a severe stutterer until past 40 years of age. He was financially very successful and in 1926 gave a large sum of money to the California Department of Education for a trial program of speech correction in the public schools. Mabel F. Gifford, who had been Coleman's teacher, was appointed chief of this service. Coleman appeared on a panel of "recovered" stutterers at the 1957 ASHA Convention in Cincinnati.
