International Stuttering Awareness Day Online Conferences
Participation in ISAD Online Conferences
Since 1998, Judith Kuster has hosted online conferences about stuttering in conjunction with International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD). Each October 1-22 individuals interested in stuttering, professional therapists as well as clients and their support persons, will discuss this much misunderstood speech disorder in one of the largest professional conferences of the year. But not face-to-face -- this conference is freely-available on the Internet. Past conferences have drawn participation from more than 138 different countries around the world.
Conference presentations, by consumers and professionals from around the world, are posted on the web site. Presentations are designed for a general audience, and feedback and discussion is invited through an Internet bulletin board (threaded discussion). The conference climaxes on October 22nd, the day designated "International Stuttering Awareness Day" by the International Fluency Association (IFA), the International Stuttering Association (ISA) and the European League of Stuttering Associations (ELSA).
The online conference will be open at the top of the Stuttering Home Page (http://www.stutteringhomepage.com) from October 1 - 22 and is freely accessible to anyone with a connection to the Internet. It is also offered for continuing education or college credit through Minnesota State University (contact carol.myhre@mnsu.edu).
Many university professors have required participation in the online conference in conjunction with their courses on fluency and fluency disorders. One example:
