Marie Clancy-Hagerman

marie.jpeg Marie Clancy-Hagerman passed away Monday evening October 31, 2011. Marie was born September 2, 1924 in Manistee, Michigan a daughter of John and Grace (Parent) Clancy. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1950, coming from Ann Arbor, MI. Marie graduated from the University of Michigan and obtained her Masters from Western Michigan University. She taught Biology at Nazareth College and then went to the Kalamazoo Public School Systems for 28 years, retiring in 1996. Marie was also a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was an avid gardener and received numerous awards from the Kalamazoo Gardening Society. Marie also loved the Arts and supported the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Marie honored her parents by establishing the John and Grace Clancy Endowment Fund that benefits the University of Michigan Communicative Disorders Clinic. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Samuel and Mark; and a sister, Pat Shugars. Marie is survived by five children and their spouses, Greg (Pat), Boyd (Yuki), Maureen (John), Priscilla (Larry), and Sean (Diane); numerous grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 2 o'clock Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society. The family also wants to thank the Doctors and staff at the Borgess Medical Center and Tendercare (Westwood) for their superior care of Marie.
