Nursing Progression & Alternate Planning

Nursing is a limited access major, which means application eligibility does not guarantee program admission. Each semester, 72 applicants are admitted. Historically, applicant pools range from 70-80 students per semester. Most recently, around 100 have applied. For this reason, nursing majors are advised to evaluate their progress while parallel planning for an alternate major or program.

EVALUATE YOUR PROGRESS

At least once a semester nursing majors should calculate their Core GPA and evaluate their progression towards application eligibility and the recommended pre-nursing milestones. Staying informed prepares those not making sufficient progress to identify strategies for improvement, modify their academic goals and/or pivot with ease.

WHAT IS PARALLEL PLANNING?

Parallel planning means planning for your current nursing major while concurrently developing an alternate plan. Parallel planning is vital in the event a student’s interest or career plans change, a student is not making sufficient progress, or a student is denied admission to the program. Creating a parallel plan is about preparing for all the possibilities.
