Warning, Probation & Suspension

When a student does not meet academic standing requirements, they are placed on Academic Warning, Academic Probation, or Suspension.

What happens when I am on Academic Warning?

  • You will be notified of your warning status by e-mail from the Office of the Provost after the term has ended.
  • Students on warning will work with the University Advising Center to discuss their academic standing and to develop an academic success plan.
  • A registration hold is placed on your account while on academic warning.
  • Your Financial Aid is on "WARNING" or "SUSPENSION". Please contact Campus Hub, 507-389-1866, for details on your specific financial aid status.

What happens if I'm on Academic Probation?

  • You will be notified of your probation status by e-mail from the Office of the Provost after the term has ended.
  • Nursing majors on probation will work with the School of Nursing Advising Team to discuss their academic standing and to develop an academic success plan.
  • A registration hold is placed on your account while on academic probation.
  • Your Financial Aid is on "SUSPENSION". Please contact Campus Hub, 507-389-1866, for details on your specific financial aid status.

 Will I be Suspended?

You will avoid suspension if you meet one of the following conditions:

  • Bring your cumulative GPA and Cumulative Completion Rate up to good standing requirements OR
  • Earn a term GPA of 2.5 and a term Completion Rate of 66.67% (continue on Academic Probation)

What happens if I am suspended?

  • You cannot attend Minnesota State Mankato for one full calendar year
  • Students who have extenuating circumstances may be eligible to return earlier through the Early Reinstatement Process.
  • All students must apply for reinstatement when planning to return after a full calendar year.
  • Financial Aid is also "SUSPENDED"
  • Financial Aid is not automatically continued if you decide to return from suspension. There is an appeal process but certain criteria must be met. Read about the Financial Aid appeal process.
