Core GPA Calculator

Core GPA Calculator

The Core GPA refers to the overall grade point average of the core pre-requisites for the nursing major. Admission decisions use the Core GPA, TEAS score and group interview score to rank the applicant pool. The Core GPA is the highest weighted factor used in the ranking process. Nursing majors should aim to achieve mostly As in their core pre-requisites to be a competitive applicant.

  • Core GPA is 50%
  • TEAS score is 25%
  • Interview score is 25%

Stay Informed!

Nursing majors should calculator their Core GPA at least once a semester to assess their progress. Use the calculator to enter the letter grade and credit amount for each core pre-requisite and attain your current Core GPA.  The calculator will automatically average the grades when a course is attempted more than once.

Repeat Core Pre-requisite Policy

Core pre-requisites may only be repeated one time each (two overall attempts), regardless of letter grade. The School of Nursing will use the average grade from the two attempts to calculate the Core GPA for admission ranking.  A withdraw from a core pre-requisite will be considered one attempt, and a (0.33) quality point deduction will be assigned to determine the average grade.

Examples:

  • 1st attempt grade: C
  • 2nd attempt grade: A
  • Average grade used in calculation: B

  • 1st attempt grade: W
  • 2nd attempt grade: B
  • Average grade used in calculation: B-

Exception:  An exception to this policy applies to students who completed a core pre-requisite during high school. These students may choose to repeat the course. This is their final attempt. The two grades will not be averaged. The highest letter grade will be used towards calculation.

Advanced Placement (AP) & International Baccalaureate Policy (IB)

If an AP or IB exam score is used to complete a core pre-requisite, a letter grade will be assigned by the School of Nursing, at the time of application, to calculate the Core GPA.

  • AP or IB Score of 5 = A
  • AP or IB Score of 4 = B
  • AP Score of 3 = C
