Research in Exercise Science

Research plays an integral part of education in exercise science.

Our goal is to create evidence-based practitioners in the exercise science field. Understanding and implementing research is crucial for program evaluation, rehabilitation implementation, and health decision making.

Undergraduate Research

Be a research participant

Being a research participant gives you insight into what it is like to be a part of a research study. Your courses may offer extra credit opportunities to be a research participant. Look for SONA within your course extra credit options.

Be a research assistant

Faculty and graduate students are looking for help with research usually through data collection. Talk with the Exercise Science Faculty about opportunities.

Conduct your own original research

Faculty guided research takes you through the process of research question development, data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings. Students often present at the Minnesota State University, Mankato Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Northland ACSM conference.

Graduate Student Research

Manuscript Capstone Research

One capstone option is to complete an original research project and write a manuscript ready for publication. The proposal and methodology are created in HP 630 Research Methods during the second semester the student leads the data collection, analysis, and writing.

Students often present at the Northland ACSM Conference and the Human Performance Capstone Symposium each Spring.

Research Assistant

Work as a research assistant for faculty lead research to gain research and project management experience. Within faculty research projects, students often create research questions within the study, complete data analysis, and present their findings.
