Ideas to Celebrate Stuttering Awareness Week
Linda Hallen from Marquette University in Wisconsin submitted the following ideas that her students came up with to celebrate Stuttering Awareness Week.
On campus ideas
- Brochures about stuttering distributed in the student Union at the university
- Promotion about Stuttering Awareness on campus television
- Submitted an informational ad about stuttering in the local student newspaper
- Table toppers with information about stuttering displayed on the tables in the student union
- A poster, accompanied by "celebrity handprints" of famous people who stutter, displayed in the student union
- Buttons made for our student clinicians that display Better Hearing and Speech Month
- Painting several large windows with colored paint in the student union
- An announcement about Stuttering Awareness Week on the campus online announcements
- Played"Scatman" on campus and shared information about musicians who stutter
Throughout the community ideas
- Box filled with candy and facts about stuttering
- Distributed a list of famous people who stuttering at a medical clinic
- Made and distributed key chains about stuttering
- Pencils with facts about stuttering distributed at an insurance agent's office and a chiropractor's office
- Spanish brochures about stuttering purchased and distributed at a medical clinic that serves people who speak Spanish
- Comments written to Newsweek's "my turn" column
- Tons of suckers with Better Hearing and Speech Month stickers attached, along with a brochure about stuttering
- Ribbons made, ala breast cancer ribbons, with Better Hearing and Speech Month printed on them (people will ask what that means, and the students will explain/inform)
- Distributing green wrist bands (ala Lance Armstrong) with yellow strips advertising Better Hearing and Speech Month (its colors are green/yellow)
