Dr. Allyson Hopperstad
Welcome Dr. Allyson Hopperstad, DNP, MSN, RN, PHN to the Affiliate Faculty for the Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society.
In reflecting on her nursing background, Dr. Hopperstad stated “I found several parallels that show my interest in family and societal health. As a leader of the American Holistic Nursing Association Red River Chapter I have been a part of leading and providing area nurses with continuing education and training around holistic approaches to family nursing.” Allyson’s background as an emergency and trauma nurse has allowed her to specialize in areas such as pediatric and adult specific care. She has also worked as a school nurse building a foundation on family nursing practices to ensure a child can safely learn and grow. In this role Allyson was able to educate families on health maintenance and disease prevention through several free screenings throughout the year that was not just aimed to children but the entire family. Lastly, Allyson states “I have had the opportunity to implement family care approaches into the bedside nursing care protocols at a large hospital institution. We implemented care strategies that identified the patient as a family unit and ensured support, education and healthcare was provided not just to the patient but the entire family structure. I am excited to be part of improving family nursing in partnership with the Taylor Nursing Institute.”
