About the Institute
In 2008, Glen '62 and Becky Taylor pledged $7 million to Minnesota State University, Mankato's School of Nursing to be used to establish the Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society, create an endowed faculty chair and provide doctoral fellowships in nursing.
"Nurses have always played a critical role in the health care system, and in the future they will be more important than ever to the well-being of families," said Glen and Becky Taylor. "We know that the new endowed chair, the Nursing Institute and the doctoral fellowships at Minnesota State Mankato will create models that will help nurses better serve all families."
The generous gift from the Taylors was one of several that they have made to Minnesota State Mankato. Their support also helped fund the Taylor Center, food science laboratories and scholarships for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The mission of The Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society is to focus on innovative nursing practice knowledge that influences the health and healing of families and society at local, state, national and international levels, and to provide leadership and expertise in family and society health related issues.
The Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society will:
- Support the scholarship of nursing practice with emphasis on advancing family and societal health and healing.
- Establish and nurture an intellectual community of scholars who will develop and test innovative ideas, educational models and policies to improve family health within the context of current societal needs.
- Develop inclusionary models that translate knowledge to change practice and improve family and societal health and healing.
- Focus on development, testing and dissemination of nursing practice models that attend to the unique nature of families.
