Mav Plans: Sample Graduation Plans by Major

What is a MavPlan?

A MavPlan is a visual template to map out what classes and requirements you plan to take and when you plan to take them in order to earn the degree you are pursuing.  In other words, it is a graduation plan. We have sample versions for each undergraduate major in the College of Allied Health and Nursing to help students have a starting point. The document can be printed off and handwritten on or downloaded onto your computer and edited electronically--please see instructions below.

This document is only to be used as an advising tool to help with planning graduation in an appropriate timeline.  Please refer to your academic catalog for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding requirements for your degree.  Additionally, always consult with an academic advisor.

After You Develop a MavPlan

Tips for Downloading and Saving a MavPlan:

**Before downloading the document from the website, you will want to ensure you have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.  This is a free application that works well for reading and using PDF files. Click here to install Adobe Acrobat Reader for free.**

  1. Search and click on the MavPlan based on your academic catalog year and major of interest--or select a blank template.
  2. Download the document per normal steps for your computer and be sure to designate where you want to save it on your computer (i.e. Desktop, My Documents, etc.).
  3. Open the document from your designated area on the computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Check the top of the document to make sure it is not open as a web browser--making changes to it in that format or through any other application other than Adobe Acrobat Reader can result in changes not saving.
  4. Keep it saved and named appropriately on your computer or upload it onto your OneDrive so you have access to it any-time any-where, including at any academic advising meetings. Access to OneDrive is Here.

Tips on Editing a MavPlan:

  • Consult with an academic advisor to learn and understand how to navigate your current place of progress on the MavPlan.
  • Use the legend on the bottom of the documents to help identify whether a class you want to move might be offered only in spring, only fall, or only in summer semesters. If there is no notiation next to a class, it is safe to assume it is commonly available every fall and spring semester.
  • Also use the legend to help identify when Pre-requisites are needed.  Before moving a class on a plan, be sure you have it planned to meet the pre-requisite courses first.
  • Students only have access to 1/200 level coruses until they have been accepted into their majors.  With the exception of BIOL 310 or 330.  Please refer to your academic catalog for admissions requirements on acceptance to your major.
  • The lefthand side lists all the majority of general education requirements--if something is already typed in, it means that the major requires a class that meets that goal area/gen. ed.  requriement.  Blank areas means you get to select something of your choice to fulfill it.
  • Read the Advising Notes section on the bottom left hand carefully.
  • Consult with an academic advisor regarding your personalized MavPlan and use it as a guide come registration each semester.  Remember that course offerings are tentative and subject to change based on a variety of factors so it is important to remain flexible in using your MavPlan as a guide and not a "set-in-stone" contract with yourself.  It will help you achieve your goals by graduating in a timely manner through visualization.
  • If you are a pre-professional student pursuing Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Occupational Therapy, or Pre-Physical Therapy, consider using this overall Allied Health Pre-Professional Checklist to guide you in adding additional milestones into your plan (i.e. when to take your GRE, complete observation hours, etc.).
    • Additional support guides: (last revised May 2019, These tentative advising guides are based on most common school requirements which our alumni pursue and is by no means an extensive or all-inclusive list.  Please be sure to do your own research to understand your own program requirements.)
