Internship Opportunities
The Rural Behavioral Health Clinic offers a range of internship placements designed to support skill development in direct service, case management, and clinical practice. Interns receive hands-on experience, weekly supervision, and opportunities to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team serving rural and underserved communities.
Placements
Case Management Services
Available to:
- Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW) students
- Generalist Master of Social Work (MSW) students
Intern Activities May Include:
- Conducting intake interviews and gathering client background information
- Supporting clients in accessing community resources (housing, financial assistance, healthcare, employment, etc.)
- Assisting with service coordination among providers, schools, probation, or county agencies
- Developing resource lists and community referral guides
- Participating in interdisciplinary staffing meetings
- Documenting service contacts and case notes in the electronic health record
- Providing social, emotional, and behavioral skills training to children and adults
- Participate in outreach efforts to strengthen community connections and increase awareness of clinic services
- Attend local events, health fairs, and community gatherings to represent the clinic
- Distribute informational materials and resources to community members and partner agencies
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, county agencies, and other partners
- Assist in developing educational materials that promote behavioral health services and reduce stigma
- Support community education efforts by sharing information about available resources and services
Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy Services
Available to:
- Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MHC) students
- Specialization Master of Social Work (MSW) students seeking clinical training
- Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) students
Intern Activities May Include:
- Conducting diagnostic assessments under supervision
- Providing individual, couples, family, or group therapy
- Co-facilitating psychoeducational or skills groups
- Developing treatment plans and updating progress notes
- Observing or co-treating with licensed staff during clinical sessions
- Participating in weekly clinical supervision and case consultation
- Completing screenings and assessments
- Coordinating care with schools, medical providers, county case management, or probation
- Engaging in crisis assessment and response
- Supporting outreach, prevention activities, and community education events
- Assist in developing therapeutic materials that promote behavioral health services and reduce stigma
Planning and Applying
Spring Internships
Spring internship placements start January 2026. Priority deadline for applications is September 26; Final deadline October 17. Decisions made by November 1st.
Summer and Fall Internships
Summer internship placements start May 2026 and fall start August 2026. Priority deadline for applications is February 13th; Final deadline March 6. Decisions made by March 21st.
