Innovative medical-dental integration featured in new documentary
Produced by Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) and Appletree Dental, the program highlights the need for increased access to dental care in Minnesota.
With a million Minnesotans unable to get the dental care they need, millions of dollars are spent on preventable dental problems in emergency rooms. One of the innovative solutions to this crisis, featured in the documentary, is our own medical-dental integration program with Mayo Clinic Health System.
Uncovered: Minnesota’s Dental Crisis focuses on solutions, that if adequately funded, could overcome barriers and eliminate health disparities. The documentary is less than 30 minutes long and can be watched anytime at no charge.
The Department of Dental Education is proud to be part of the documentary, the medical-dental integration pilot and to routinely offer dental care in our public dental clinic to those who may otherwise not be able to receive oral health care through events such as Health for Hereos, Kids Day, and Give Kids A Smile. We have also launched a new Master of Science in Advanced Dental Therapy (ADT MS) program to increase providers in communities where the need for dental care is highest.

It's not every day a film crew takes over the public dental clinic lobby, so here's a few shots from the filming that took place in 2020!
