Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Below is a listing of the most frequently asked questions of our Academic Advisors. If you have a question that is not answered below, contact the College Advising Office.

How do I declare my major?

To declare your major, complete the major button form linked here. Consult with an academic advisor on admission requirements and processes for your major.

I don't know who my advisor is, how do I find out?

To determine who your advisor is, log into your E-Services account. Select “Courses and Registration” and then “View/Modify Schedule.” Your advisor’s name will appear at the top of your schedule. If you are assigned to the Allied Health Advising team, this means you can meet with any advisor in our office. If you have a question about your advisor or are missing an advisor assignment, please contact our office for assistance.

When and how am I admitted to my major?

Remember, declaring and being admitted to your major are two different things:

  1. To declare a major, complete a major button form request found here
  2. To be admitted to a major, each program has specific requirements for admission to the major. Many have formal application processes, GPA, prerequisite courses, and credit requirements. Consult the Undergraduate Catalog, department webpage, and information provided within each department for more details. It is very important to work closely with your advisor to prepare for timely admission to your chosen major.

I am trying to register and there is a hold on my account. What do I do?

Registration holds are placed on a student's account for several different reasons. To determine if you have any outstanding holds, check your E-services account. After logging in, select "Courses & Registration," and "Check Registration Holds" to determine if you currently have any holds.

I'm a transfer student. How do I find out how my credits will fit into the requirements at Minnesota State university, Mankato and my major?

General transfer evaluations are done by the Office of Registration and Academic Records for each transfer student. This general transfer audit will indicate how your credits fulfill the general education requirements at Minnesota State University, Mankato. You will review this transfer evaluation with an Allied Health academic advisor at your transfer orientation. We will advise you on the process if any of your transfer courses must be evaluated within your major department to determine if course substitutions or waivers are needed.
