The purposes of Phi Alpha Honor Society are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of training for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.

BSSW Membership Criteria

  1. Admitted to the BSSW program/social work major AND currently enrolled in or have successfully completed SOWK 441 Generalist Social Work Practice.
  2. Must be in top 35% of the Social Work major.
  3. Agree to participate in Phi Alpha Eta Alpha chapter meetings and activities and perform 3 hours of community service each semester.

MSW Membership Criteria

  1. Completed 1 semester of the Minnesot State Mankato MSW program.
  2. Achieved at least a 3.5 GPA (overall) for graduate courses taken at, or transferred to Minnesota State Mankato.
  3. Must be in top 35% of the MSW Social Work Program.
  4. Agree to participate in Phi Alpha Eta Alpha chapter meetings and activities and perform 3 hours of community service each semester
  5. NOTE: We invite first semester MSW students to participate in activities, but students need to have completed 1 semester of coursework and earned the requisite GPA to be inducted.
