About the Department

Our program is one of three dental hygiene programs in the state of Minnesota to offer a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. You will work with excellent faculty in a brand new facility, including a 25-chair public dental clinic. In the dental simulation lab, you will practice new dental hygiene skills prior to working on patients in a safe, realistic environment. State-of-the-art technology is incorporated in both the clinic and classroom settings.

The dental hygiene curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for you to develop a sound clinical and theoretical foundation for the practice of dental hygiene. Graduates are prepared to fulfill dental hygiene roles as clinician, change agent, educator, researcher, and consumer advocate as put forth by the American Dental Hygienists' Association. Students are also trained to place fillings, which is not typically offered at 2-year institutions. The Dental Hygiene Program is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Students graduate well prepared to take the exams required to be licensed as a dental hygienist. Since 2012, all students passed the regional practical exam on the first attempt. For the national, written exam, the success rate on national board exam has been above the national average. Since 2013, all students have passed the national exam on the first attempt.
