Teaching: Dr. Chiou’s teaching goals are to strengthen our students’ knowledge on evidence-based practice in neurogenic communication disorders and directly apply the knowledge into clinical service delivery with high professional expectations.

Areas of Interest: Dr. Chiou's Brain Injury Research Lab is focused on patient-centered language and cognitive-communication intervention for older adults and meaningful engagements for people with dementia and their care partners. As co-president of the Asian Pacific Islander Speech-Language-Hearing Caucus, Dr. Chiou passionately advocates for speech, language, and hearing health within the global Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Dr. Chiou actively collaborates with leaders at ASHA and multicultural constituency groups to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Chiou co-founded Garden EngAGEment, a dementia-friendly program via interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Chiou leads the one of the Aphasia Conversation Groups at Minnesota Connect Aphasia Now .
