The Rural SUD Workforce: Recruit, Retain, Sustain
Friday, September 20, 2024
8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Minnesota State University, Mankato – Centennial Student Union
Description: One-quarter of Minnesotans live and work in Greater Minnesota, defined as rural areas and towns of under 50,000 residents. Access to substance use disorders (SUD) care in Greater Minnesota has been and remains a persistent problem. A major contributor is workforce shortages, which, while affecting the entire SUD provider system, is disproportionately seen in lower-population areas. This day-long conference brings together students aspiring to work in SUD professions, current professionals at all levels, addiction studies educators, and policymakers. Presentations, panels and discussions will address the scope of the problem and how it might be addressed through advances in the recruitment, retention and sustainability of the rural SUD workforce.
- State and national speakers
- Panelists with rural Minnesota SUD care experience addressing recruitment, retention and sustainability
- Facilitated conversations on implementation of workforce building and growth strategies

- Morning: Israil Ali - Acting Deputy Associate Administrator, Bureau of Health Workforce, HRSA
- Afternoon: Mathew Roosa, LCSW-R - Consultant/Coach/Trainer, NIATx
