Series Summary:

Join the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Center for Rural Behavioral Health for an engaging three-part clinical supervision training series designed for current and aspiring clinical supervisors! These interactive sessions offer practical tools for building ethical, effective, and creative supervision practices.  
 
Cost: Register for individual trainings ($75/each) or for all three for $200 (and save $25)
 
Training online via Zoom – Recording available to those unable to attend the day of training.
 
Earn up to 9 CEUs in supervision! 
This training is awaiting approval for 9 Supervision CEUs by the Minnesota boards of Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Behavioral Health and Therapy, and Psychology.  
 

Session I:

June 5, 2026 |  9:00 am – 12:00 pm
 
Basics of Supervision  
This training provides a foundational overview of clinical supervision, focusing on the roles, responsibilities, and core models that shape effective supervisory practice. Participants will explore the structure of supervision, essential ethical and legal considerations, and the importance of developing a strong supervisory relationship. This session is ideal for new supervisors or those seeking a refresher on best practices in supervision.
 
CEUs: Earn 3 supervision CEUs.

Session II:

Beyond Administrative Supervision: How to Build Clinical Growth  
This training moves past administrative oversight to focus on how supervisors can intentionally foster clinical growth in their supervisees. Participants will learn how to promote reflective practice, enhance clinical reasoning, and offer feedback that challenges and supports professional development. Emphasis is placed on balancing structure with individualized support to cultivate mental health professional identity and confidence.
 
CEUs: Earn 3 supervision CEUs.
 

Session III:

June 12, 2026 | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
 
Unleashing Creativity: Using Creative Approaches in Supervision  
This engaging session introduces creative and experiential tools that supervisors can use to enrich the supervision experience. Participants will explore how creativity fosters insight, connection, and clinical risk-taking. Through hands-on examples and demonstrations, attendees will learn how to implement creative interventions, such as art, metaphor, role-play, and symbolic work, tailored to the developmental stage and needs of their supervisees.
 
CEUs: Earn 3 supervision CEUs.
 

Meet Your Presenters:

Dr. Lynn O'Brien, EdD, LPCC-S, RPT
 
Dr. O'Brien graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a BA in Psychology, MS in Counseling, and EdD in Counselor Education and Supervision. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of MN, Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of WI, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of IA, as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Dr. O'Brien is an approved supervisor in MN and IA and also credentialed as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. As a Registered Play Therapist, Dr. O'Brien serves children through the use of play in the therapeutic setting. Dr. O'Brien also works with teens, adults, couples, and families. She enjoys learning about the professional development of counselors and has presented on creative ways to engage in supervision.

Dr. Casey Baker, EdD, LMHC, RPT-S
 

Dr. Casey Baker is a licensed mental health counselor, Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor, and counselor educator with extensive experience in clinical practice, supervision, and training. She specializes in play therapy, child and adolescent counseling, and developmentally responsive supervision.
