Mentoring Matters
Mentoring matters. But when experienced professors and students can't be in the same place (or even the same country), virtual mentoring can bridge borders and build the next generation of nurse educators.
A new international case study, “Virtual Mentoring in Doctoral Nursing Education,” by Dr. Teresa Gutiérrez-Alemán (CESAG-UP Comillas) and Dr. Norma K. Krumwiede (Minnesota State University), explores how a four-month virtual mentorship during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic helped a doctoral student design an evidence-based family nursing curriculum without ever meeting in person.
The study found that strong communication, constructive feedback, emotional support and a safe, reflective learning space are key to successful virtual mentoring.
