First-Year Nursing Students Participate in Madelia Elementary School's Family Engagement Night
First-year nursing students, in partnership with the Madelia Community Based Collaborative, met recently with students, teachers and parents at Madelia Elementary School’s Family Engagement Night. The students provided resources, education, and activities about things that impact health such as handwashing, identifying and coping with emotions, healthful snack and drink options, the importance of sleep, and how and when to contact someone in an emergency.
The MCBC is a community initiative supported by the Glen Taylor Nursing Institute in 2012. The program includes faculty and community interactions with Taylor Visiting Scholars. The program is in year two of a five-year strategic plan to improve mental health in our community using the five pillars of: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, connectedness, and finances.
