Advising Students on Academic Warning/Probation/Reinstatement
When a student does not meet academic standing requirements, they are placed on Academic Warning, Academic Probation, or Suspension.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I AM ON ACADEMIC WARNING?
- You will be notified of your warning by e-mail from the Office of the Provost in Academic Affairs
- Students on warning will work with the University Academic Advising Center, ML 111 or 507- 389-1650, to discuss their academic standing and to develop an academic success plan
- Students will receive information via email from the University Academic Advising Center with steps they need to take and various requirements of their academic warning status
- A registration hold is placed on your account while on academic warning
- Your Financial Aid is on "WARNING" or "SUSPENSION". Please contact Campus Hub, 507-389-1866, for details on your specific financial aid status
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I AM ON ACADEMIC PROBATION?
- You will be notified of your warning by e-mail from the Office of the Provost in Academic Affairs
- Students with majors in Allied Health on probation will work with the Allied Health Advising Office, MF 124, 507-389-6315, to discuss their academic standing and to develop an academic success plan
- Students will receive information via email from the Allied Health Advising Office with what steps they need to take and various requirements of their academic probation status
- A registration hold is placed on your account while on academic probation
- Your Financial Aid is on "SUSPENSION". Please contact Campus Hub, 507-389-1866, for details on your specific financial aid status
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU MEET WITH THE ALLIED HEALTH ADVISING OFFICE ABOUT PROBATION?
- Discuss what impacted your academic success and develop an academic success plan
- Review probation and provide you GPA and completion rate information unique to you
- Discuss next steps to help you improve academic standing (tutoring, time management, etc.)
- Expect to meet at least 2 times, but can meet more based on your academic plan
WILL I BE SUSPENDED? YOU WILL AVOID SUSPENSION IF…
- Bring your cumulative Minnesota State Mankato GPA and Cumulative Completion Rate up to good standing requirements OR
- Earn a term GPA of 2.5 and a term Completion Rate of 66.67% (continue on Academic Probation)
WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM SUSPENDED?
- You cannot attend Minnesota State Mankato, or any other Minnesota State institutions, for one full calendar year
- Student who had extenuating circumstances may be eligible to return earlier through the Early Reinstatement Process.
- You must apply for reinstatement if you plan to return (reinstatement) after a full calendar year.
- Financial Aid is also "SUSPENDED"
- Financial Aid is not automatically continued if you decide to return from suspension. There is an appeal process but certain criteria must be met. Read about the Financial Aid appeal process.
HOW DO MY TRANSFER CREDITS IMPACT MY ACADEMIC STANDING?
Transfer credits from other institutions are calculated as part of Satisfactory Academic Progress credit completion rate. Your total cumulative credit completion rate is considered in your academic standing.
Transfer credits from other institutions are not calculated as part of Satisfactory Academic Progress GPA, however, they do count toward the total number of credits attempted which determines what GPA you need to achieve. Only your local cumulative GPA (Minnesota State Mankato GPA) is considered for your academic standing.
