BSSW Frequently Asked Questions

Students in practicum are required to complete a 440-hours during either the fall or spring semester.  Students are typically at their field practicum setting Monday through Thursday for 30 hours per week for 15 weeks.

The BSSW Program follows the standards established by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) that clearly state that the student’s practicum experience and field instruction must be different than the student’s employment. The BSSW Program will make every attempt to work with the student and the agency if the student requests to complete the practicum requirement at their place of employment.  For more information, read the Field Education Manual policy regarding Field Practicum at Place of Employment for BSSW students.

Difficulties can often be a crucial part of the learning process and it is important to address concerns; not ignore them.  A key objective in social work is to recognize difficulties that occur in relationships and to work towards conflict resolution.  The field education program has developed policies for addressing difficulties in field practicum.  The policies and procedures are found in the Field Education Manual.
