Employment Repayment for the MSW Child Welfare Program
For each semester that you receive a financial stipend through the Child Welfare Program, you are agreeing to work 4.5 months in an approved child welfare agency after graduation.
In order to assure that the repayment obligation is met, the CWP Coordinator provides documentation to the Department of Human Services showing that each Scholar has met the job search and employment requirements.
All documents for this process will be provided to you by the respective CWP Faculty Coordinator. If you are unsure about any part of the employment search requirements, or about the employment documentation process, it is important to ask your CWP Faculty Coordinator for clarification.
Employment Search
- Meet with your CWP Student Support Coordinator prior to graduation to complete the Exit Summary Form.
- Search for employment in an approved child welfare agency for a minimum of 3 months, beginning the Monday after graduation. You can begin your search prior to graduation, but employment search and/or repayment time does not start until Monday after graduation.
- Your search must include agencies within at least 50 miles of your home residence.
- As you conduct your employment search, you will provide Employment Search Contact form and documents so that your CWP Student Support Coordinator can advise and support a rigorous, good faith, intentional search process.
Employment Confirmation
- Once you are hired with an approved agency, submit a required Employment Confirmation Form to your CWP Student Support Coordinator.
- Fulfill your required 4.5 months of employment per semester of funding.
- Keep your CWP Student Support Coordinator informed of your current address, email, and telephone number; this is used for future evaluation of the program’s impact on public child welfare.
Employment Repayment Complete
- Once you have completed your employment commitment, submit an Employment Complete Confirmation form to your CWP Student Support Coordinator.
- You will receive letter of employment completion in documentation of your fulfilled requirement.
Missing/Incomplete Documentation
If the CWP Coordinator does not receive all completed documentation from you, the stipend MUST be financially repaid through Minnesota State Mankato. Unpaid accounts may be turned over to an agency for collection, and you will responsible for all fees related to the collection process in addition to the amount owed.
