Job Opportunity: Student Support Coordinator - Child Welfare Program

The Student Support Coordinator for the Department of Social Work's Title IV-E Child Welfare (CWP) Program will provide support to students, graduates, faculty and staff, and community child and family service professional in order to meet the contractual requirements of this federally funded contract with Minnesota Department of Human Services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Manages marketing, recruitment, and application processes and related data gathering.
  2. Schedules and monitors student attendance at required workshops, conferences and program group meetings and completes exit interviews for CWP students, faculty, staff.
  3. Manages post-graduate tracking activities and provides ongoing support to graduates in their efforts to meet post-graduation employment search and payback requirements.
  4. Makes decisions about students/graduate efforts to meet contractual obligations.
  5. Communicates regularly with CWP BSSW & MSW Coordinators on issues related to student completion of academic and post-graduation requirements.
  6. Manages an online database management system requiring data entry from multiple forms to track stipend recipient's progress, documents, and activities related to completion of academic program and post-graduation employment repayment obligations.
  7. Provides support to MSW and BSSW Field Coordinators as needed for CWP stipend students completing senior practicum.
  8. Uses data management system to complete annual reports.
  9. Maintains communication with multiple departments at Minnesota State University, Mankato including Social Work, financial aid, student services, and business offices.
  10. Assures that contract deliverables and timelines are met and documented for annual contract renewal, annual reports, and program related evaluation activities.
  11. Monitors program expenses, timelines, and assure the completion and delivery of budget related documents required by Minnesota State Mankato departments and MN Department of Human Services (MN DHS) and authorizes expenses as required in the Child Welfare Program's annual budget for student recruitment, support, training and related activities, etc.
  12. Provides support to CWP Coordinators with organizing, scheduling CWP collaboration an/or partnership activities within the institution and the child welfare professional community.
  13. Other duties as assigned.                                                                                                                      

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.(Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
  • Licensed or license-eligible as LSW or higher.
  • Two years relevant work experience in contracts or grant management, database management, student support and/or child and family services experience.
  • Must have a valid US driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse learning and working environment.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate and/or graduate social work education.
  • Ability to interpret and implement departmental, institutional, state, and federal laws and policies related to education and human service data privacy laws, social work education, and child welfare professional practice.
  • Specific interest in and/or experience with children and families, preferably in rural communities.
  • Able to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, staff, faculty and professionals of diverse backgrounds with strong interpersonal and cross cultural oral and communication skills.
  • Experience with grants, contracts, and/or budgets.
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheets and database software, and reports/graphs.
  • Experience in working in collaborative programs, initiatives or teams.
  • Able to handle multiple projects with strong multitasking skills.

Additional Information

The Department of Social Work's Child Welfare Program prepares undergraduate and graduates social work students to work in public or tribal child welfare agencies across Minnesota. The Program provides financial support to 20 graduate and undergraduate students each semester (more than $150,000 annually), tracks and provides support to 15-20 new graduates annually, and monitors 20 or more graduates in employment repayment at any given time. The Child Welfare Program is a member of the Minnesota Title IV-E Child Welfare University-State Consortium.
