Health education specialists and community health workers are employed in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Becoming involved with the profession prior to graduation is possible through volunteering and membership in student organizations. Membership benefits include networking, professional experience, and collaboration with others in more advanced stages of their careers.  Students are encouraged to join Eta Sigma Gamma,  a national health education honorary organization which offers many benefits for students. Student membership is also available in national organizations such as the Society for Public Health Education and state organizations such as the Minnesota Society for Public Health Education.
