Using U.Select as a tool for Equivalencies

The U.Select website provides information on coursework that has been evaluated as equivalent from a number of higher education institutions in the upper Midwest. While not an exhaustive list of either courses or institutions, it is a good resource to consult when wondering about transfer equivalencies, or when searching for equivalent courses to take during a summer session or semester away, with plans to transfer back to MSU. The following page provides instructions on its use.

Instructions to Access U.Select Course Equivalency Guide for MNSCU/Minnesota Institutions

1. Go to the U.Select website: www.transfer.org (or you may simply Google search: U.Select).
2. Click "Equivalencies by School" link.
3. In Step 1, select "Minnesota" from the state drop-down menu, and select "Minnesota State University-Mankato" from the school drop-down menu.
4. In Step 2, select "Minnesota" (or another state that you've attended college in) from the drop down menu.
5. Click "Go."
6. In Step 3, locate the transfer school(s) from the list provided, and check the "add" check box to the far right. Users can select a maximum of 5 schools.
7. Click "Add Schools" button.
8. In Step 4, click "Create Guide" button.
9. Use the provided transfer equivalency guide to find the transfer course information using the subject drop-down box.

Instructions to Access U.Select Equivalency Guide for Individual Courses

1. Go to the U.Select website: www.transfer.org (or you may simply Google search: U.Select).
2. Click "Equivalencies by Course" link.
3. In Step 1, select "Minnesota" from the state drop-down menu, and select "Minnesota State University-Mankato" from the school drop-down menu.
4. In Step 2, enter the requested information. For example, if you are looking for a BIOL 220 equivalent enter the following:
   Department Abbreviation: BIOL
   Course Number: 220
   Alternate ID: N/A
5. In Step 3, enter the requested information. For example, if you are looking for a BIOL 220 equivalent somewhere within 15 miles of Minneapolis enter the following:
   State: Minnesota
   Category: N/A
   Distance: Select "10" miles from the drop down menu
   Click the "Other Zip Code" and enter in the Minneapolis zip code

Click "Find."

Use the provided course transfer guide to locate the schools - within the distance range entered - that offer the specific course equivalent.
