Welcome to the School of Nursing Advising Office! We provide academic advising services to all pre-nursing students pursuing application and admission to the Pre-Licensure Nursing Program. We assist students on issues pertaining to program admission, general education & pre-requisite course planning, academic concerns, academic policies & procedures, alternative planning, transfer evaluations, campus referrals and sources of support.

Advising Structure

Individual, group and walk-in advising opportunities are available to pre-nursing students throughout the year. 

  • First-year pre-nursing students are required to attend a group advising session for registration and schedule planning.
  • Second-year pre-nursing students may schedule an individual appointment for registration and schedule planning.
  • Upon admission to the Pre-Licensure Program, students will be assigned a nursing faculty advisor for major advising and career development opportunities.

Kasi Johnson is from Willmar, MN and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from St. Cloud State University. After working in Child Protective Services, Kasi changed paths and began a career in higher education where she served as the Pre-Nursing Advisor and Transfer Specialist at Ridgewater College for four years. She went on to advance her education at Minnesota State University, Mankato earning a Master's Degree in Counseling and Student Personnel.  Kasi is currently the Student Relations Coordinator for the School of Nursing and has served in this role since 2012.

Allyson Thoreson is from Owatonna, MN and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Alcohol & Drug Studies and Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. As a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Allyson spent the last year working with adolescents struggling with substance abuse issues in southern Minnesota.  It was through this experience where she developed an interest in prevention, ultimately leading her to pursue a graduate degree in Professional School Counseling.  Allyson is currently in her first year of this program. Allyson enjoys staying busy by experiencing new things, crafting, and is very enthusiastic about staying active around campus!
