Mu Lambda Chapter, STTI – Strategic/Action Plan – July 2008–June 2009

Based on STTI President Carol Huston’s Call to Action & CKA Criteria

Vision 2020: The Honor Society of Nursing, STTI will be the organization of choice for scholarship, knowledge, and leadership for nurses globally.
Theme: Leading Globally

Four Key Elements which build upon suggestions for Vision 2020:

  1. Being intentionally global.
  2. Creating and sharing knowledge resources.
  3. Developing career–spanning leadership skills of our membership.
  4. Creating a greater emphasis on providing service.
Goal 1. Be intentionally global.
1.1. Objective: Advance global linkages at the organizational and member levels.

Actions:
1.   Focus education programming on leadership, scholarship, and cultural needs of the community.
2. Promote international connections through conferences, speakers, consultants, and members’ exchange opportunities
3. Promote diversity among the membership.
4. Connect with nurses internationally using technology and the internet.
Goal 2. Create and share knowledge resources.
2.1. Objective: Advance the scientific base of nursing practice.

Actions:
1. Continue the Annual Research Forum.
2. Continue honoring members with financial support for research projects.
3. Promote evidence–based practice.
4. Encourage use of STTI sources of knowledge, i.e. journals, conferences, library.
5. Develop an academic scholarship program for nursing students.
2.2. Objective: Support the sharing of scholarly endeavors from a variety of perspectives.

Actions:
1. Implement an annual scholarship of reading program.
2. Use technology to increase participation in scholarly programs.
3. Collaborate with others to share knowledge.
4. Collaborate with the MSU, M, School of Nursing, Nursing Institute of Family and Society.
Goal 3. Develop career–spanning leadership skills of our membership.
3.1. Objective: Prepare and position nurses to lead collaboratively in diverse, complex, health–related environments.

Actions:
1.   Develop methods to market membership and leadership opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students and community leaders.
2. Increase the recruitment and retention of active Mu Lambda members.
3. Invite inactive members to reconnect with a STTI Chapter, hopefully, Mu Lambda Chapter.
4. Use the Leadership Succession Committee to promote and recruit members to Chapter leadership roles.
5. Take an active role in the Chapter Key Award process.
6. Actively recruit a leadership intern—new member to work with Research Forum, Induction, and/or Membership.
7. Familiarize Chapter members with the components of Vision 2020.
3.2. Objective: Develop members across the life span of their careers.

Actions:
1. Promote the use of technology to enhance member connectedness.
2. Develop a membership fact sheet and update the Mu Lambda Chapter membership profile
3. Maintain an informative web site that is attractive for member recruitment and retention.
4. Support mentorship of members and the mentorship award given annually.
5. Invite new and continuing members to actively participate in the work of the Chapter. (LSC)
Goal 4. Create a greater emphasis on providing service.
4.1. Objective: Participate in activities to support health issues.

Actions:
1.   Form a team and collect donations for the annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk.
2. Organize fund–raising activities to support research that advances health/nursing knowledge and interventions.
3. Work with other groups to enhance service to others.
4. Collaborate with selected service projects of the MSU, M, School of Nursing, Student Nurses’ Association’s (SNA)
5. Promote use of the VIProfile.
Goal 5. Continue actions that ensure sustainability of the Chapter.
5.1. Objective: Use and manage a variety of resources to ensure the organization’s future.

Actions:
1.   Develop a fund raising plan each year.
2. Maintain sound financial/investment policies/procedures for the Chapter.
3. Respond to STTI philanthropic opportunities.
4. Involve others in Chapter activities such as: retirees, past chapter officers, transfer members, renewed inactive members, recruited nurse leaders.
5.2. Objective: Explore ways to publicize the Chapter’s presence in the community and preserve the Chapter’s history.

Actions:
1. Send press releases to local news media regarding Chapter activities.
2. Systematically begin to archive the Chapter’s history and documents.
3. Display the Chapter’s certificates, awards, plaques, and memorabilia in the Mu Lambda Room.
4. Place the 2007–2008 newsletters on the Mu Lambda web site: www.ahn.mnsu.edu/nursing/mulambda
