Kathryn SchweerKathryn Schweer Nurse Mentorship Award

The Kathryn Schweer Nurse Mentorship Award was established in April 2000. The award honors the nurse who has demonstrated mentorship through sustained and significant leadership to nurses and nursing by modeling the values, attitudes, and behaviors consistent with those of the profession. The mentor has a unique way of accepting individuals and guiding them to realize their full potential. Recipients of the award include:

To nominate a nurse for this award, write a letter to the Awards Committee Chairperson or Mu Lambda Chapter and describe the ways in which the nurse has demonstrated mentorship according to the above description. Submit the nomination four weeks prior to the Induction Ceremony, usually held in April each year. The award is presented at the time new members are inducted into Mu Lambda Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International.

Linda WenkelLinda Wenkel Outstanding Undergraduate Student Performance Award

The Linda Wenkel Outstanding Undergraduate Student Performance Award honors an undergraduate nursing student being inducted into Mu Lambda chapter who demonstrates outstanding skills in one or more of the following areas: Clinical, research or creative activity, leadership ability through active involvement in the School of Nursing, and active participation in community/university activities. Reward recipients receive an award and a $100 scholarship. Recipients of the award include:

School of Nursing faculty nominate students for this award who meet the criteria as described. Faculty then determine the award recipient from those nominated. The award is presented at the time of the induction of new members.

Sonja MeiersSonja Meiers Outstanding Graduate Student Performance Award

The Sonja Meiers Outstanding Graduate Student Performance Award honors a graduate nursing student being inducted into Mu Lambda Chapter who demonstrates outstanding skills in one or more of the following areas: Clinical practice, research or creative activity, leadership ability through active involvement in the School of Nursing, and active participation in community/university activities. School of Nursing faculty nominate students for this award who meet the criteria as described. Faculty then determine the award recipient from those nominated. Reward recipients receive an award and a $100 scholarship. The award is presented at the time of the induction of new members.

Julie HebenstreitJulie Hebenstreit Presidential Research Award

The Julie Hebenstreit Presidential Research Award was established in recognition of Mu Lambda’s tenth anniversary and in honor of Julie being the first president of Mu Lambda Chapter. The award honors a Mu Lambda member who is engaged in scholarly activity related to the advancement of nursing. Scholarly activity includes nursing research, nursing practice, nursing education, or nursing service partnership. The award recipient is to demonstrate a willingness to report scholarly activity outcomes to the Mu Lambda Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International at a chapter meeting or in a newsletter article. Reward recipients receive a $500 scholarship. School of Nursing Award recipients include:

Cindy ScherbCindy Scherb Research Dissemination Award

The Cindy Scherb Research Dissemination Award was established in 2005 by the Research and Awards Committee. The purpose of the funding is to support researchers who are ready to share their findings through paper or poster presentations at conferences or through journal or book manuscript preparation. Cindy Scherb, PhD, RN, is a Past President of Mu Lambda Chapter who facilitated nurse participation in clinical research at Immanuel–St. Joseph’s Mayo Health System for a number of years. Her leadership in promoting an active research agenda in the clinical setting as well as to partner with educational institutions led to the establishment of this award in Dr. Scherb’s name. Reward recipients receive a $500 scholarship. School of Nursing Award recipients include:
