Family Focused NursingPage address: http://ahn.mnsu.edu/nursing/family/
The School of Nursing along with The Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society has a family and societal focus providing a foundation for a comprehensive curriculum that embeds family and societal health in studies from the undergraduate to the graduate and doctoral program level. In research, practice and education there is a common thread: to help nursing students and practicing nurses identify ways to bring a family focus into all individuals' care. With a theoretical foundation thinking family is an attitude tied to intentional actions.
Skills and knowledge to assess families and adress the connectedness of health and illness to the communities where they live have great significance. Regardless of where medical care delivery occurs, people in family units are interconnected, they share and make decisions about finite resources to address valued needs. Too often the individual and family stories are overlooked or ignored.
