The Minnesota State University Athletic Department offers multiple sport marketing internships every year focusing on the following areas:
Promoting MSU Athletic Events
Interns construct and implement marketing promotions and initiatives to enhance event attendance and atmosphere. Opportunities to use creativity by creating flyers, making posters, and putting together group nights or special events exist. Examples of this include bringing a little league team out to a baseball game, or putting together a mascot night for one of the basketball games. Interns will also have the chance to put together projects that will bring fans to games. Experiences will allow interns the opportunity to learn how to plan and execute major events such as Midnight Madness and the Taste of Mankato.
Interns are required to attend select MSU football, basketball (men's and women's), volleyball, soccer, and hockey (men's and women's) games. While at the events interns do many things, including: creating a fun atmosphere for fans by implementing promotions, playing event music, coordinating with the band and cheerleaders, and running the marketing table. Interns also are in charge of selling tickets at select sports.
Interns assist with the coordination of all the activities involved with the Student Rewards Program. This includes membership recruitment, promotion of the club, maintaining the membership database, publishing a seasonal newsletter, and distributing all membership materials.
Interns help the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing with special projects such as the implementation of the Taste of Mankato event. For this event, interns coordinate the database of all area restaurants within a 20 mile radius of Mankato, and assist in the development and distribution of marketing materials to area restaurants. Interns also help with the follow up calls during early August to secure interested restaurants. In addition, interns work during Orientation Sessions, speak at an involvement panel with representatives from Student Leadership and Campus Recreation, and sell Student Rewards Program Memberships to incoming freshmen during the Campus Resource Fair.
