Internships are one of the most important components of the Sport Management program at Minnesota State Mankato. Eight semester hours of credit must be earned from the practical field based on internship learning experiences. Undergraduate and graduate students must seek and secure an internship through discussion with their advisor to complete this process. Students will have the opportunity during their internship to:



  • Gain practical experience in a specified area in the sport industry under professional supervision and guidance
  • Apply theories and principles from their formal education to specific situations within the sport industry
  • Use interpersonal and professional communication skills
  • Learn to work with other individuals trained in the sport industry
  • Demonstrate creativity, initiative, and responsibility
  • Exercise and improve their time and stress management skills
  • Observe and analyze professional behavior in the sport industry
  • Demonstrate their problem solving skills
  • Complete a resume appropriate for the sport industry
