Developmental/Adapted Physical Education

Specialization in D/APE offers Master's degree opportunities leading to, and beyond if desired, Minnesota-required licensure in D/APE. Precise course of study is determined, in part, by the degree (MA or MS) student elects to pursue. Beyond specific Human Performance core requirements and requirements of this specialty, student, in consultation with major advisor, may tailor a course of study designed around individual need.

Graduate study leading to Minnesota-required D/APE licensure first requires student to have achieved an undergraduate teaching degree in physical education.

Descriptions of courses listed below are available on the Graduate Bulletins page.

Graduate-Level D/APE Licensure Course of Study

  • Thesis Plan - 30-31
  • Alternate Plan Paper - 34-36

Maximum of 15 hours of D/APE licensure courses can count toward MA/MS degree because over 50% of coursework must be 600-level. If student already has D/APE licensure, D/APE coursework will consist of 600-level courses in D/APE, Special Education, and from other departments.
