The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) credential is required for professionals who practice as alcohol and drug counselors in the State of Minnesota. The LADC credential is administered by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy. The Alcohol and Drug Studies Major and Track One Minor fulfill the academic requirements necessary to pursue licensure as an LADC.

The Minnesota Certification Board (MCB) sets policies and procedures for alcohol and drug counselor certification in Minnesota. The MCB is a member board of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) for Alcohol and Other Drug Professionals. Persons who become Board Certified Counselors (BCC) at the reciprocal level enjoy the simple portability of their credential to other states that have member boards with the IC&RC.
Additionally, the MCB is an administrator for the IC&RC's comprehensive written exam for alcohol and other drug abuse counselors. The exam fulfills the testing requirements set forth by the Board of Behaviroal Health and Therapy for the LADC credential.
