Alcohol and Drug Studies Minor Requirements

Track One: Alcohol and Drug Counseling Track (36 Credits)

This track includes the Alcohol and Drug Studies Core Courses and the Internship Experience. This track fulfills the academic requirements necessary to pursue licensure in the State of Minnesota as an alcohol and drug counselor.

  • HLTH 225 – Introduction to Alcohol and Drug Studies (3 credits)
              *Prerequisite for applying the ADS Application and Screening Process
              *Offered Fall and Spring
  • HLTH 456 – Assessment of Chemical Dependency (3 credits)
              *Prerequisite: HLTH 225
              *Offered Spring and Summers of Even Numbered Years 
  • HLTH 469 – Chemical Dependency Dual Diagnosis (3 credits)
              *Prerequisite: HLTH 225
              *Offered Fall and Summers of Odd Numbered Years 
  • CSP 470 – Group Procedures (3 credits)
              *Prerequisite: CSP 471
              *Offered Spring and Summer 
  • CSP 471 – Interpersonal Helping Skills (3 credits)
              *Offered as an ADS cohort in Spring.  Also offered in Summer and Fall 
  • CSP 473 – Counseling the Chemically Dependent Family (3 credits)
              *Offered Spring and Summer 
  • PSYC 429 – Drug Dependence (3 credits)
              *Offered Fall
  • SOC 465 – Law and Chemical Dependency (3 credits)
              *Offered Fall and Summer 
Alcohol and Drug Studies Internship Process (12 credits)
  • HLTH 497 – Internship: Alcohol and Drug Studies
              *All core coursework must be completed prior to registering for the internship
              *Successful completion of the ADS Application and Screening process required
              *Permission for registration is required from the ADS Coordinator

Track Two: Alcohol and Drug Studies Track (24 Credits)

This track includes only the Alcohol and Drug Studies Core Courses. Without the internship experience, students will not be eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota as an alcohol and drug counselor.
