The Department of Family Consumer Science offers a flexible minor which can be taken in FLCD. An FLCD minor can be valuable to students with a variety of majors. The following acceptable courses are arranged in categories to help students design FLCD minors that will meet their goals. Students may choose any combination of 20 hours from the categories below for an FLCD minor. Other FCS courses may be chosen with advisor approval. All courses selected for an FLCD minor must be FCS courses.
Students taking an approved track of courses are eligible to apply for Certified Family Life Educator status with the National Council on Family Relations. Although the approved track of courses requires about 28 semester hours for most students, taking a minor in FLCD is a good way to qualify for this certification. Becoming a Certified Family Life Educator can be valuable to FLCD majors and is an excellent credential for students in other majors who plan to work with families. The courses with asterisks below are approved by NCFR.
