The profession of Family Consumer Science (formerly known as Home Economics) has come a long way since the days of preparing women to run a more efficient home. Today this diverse profession provides avenues for professionals seeking careers that help to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities. This focus includes: child development, family studies, foods and nutrition, consumerism, housing, textiles, and education.
