Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC) South

Mission

The Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center of Southern Minnesota (MAGEC South) is a multidisciplinary, collaborative organization which seeks to improve the quality of geriatric care provided to older adults through enhancing education, research and practice throughout south central Minnesota.

History and Current Governance

MAGEC South began through informal collaboration of educators, practitioners, and administrators in 1990. In 1992, under the auspices of the Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC) at the University of Minnesota, MAGEC South became the first of seven regional geriatric education centers serving Minnesota, eastern North Dakota and southwestern Wisconsin.

MAGEC South is coordinated through the College of Allied Health and Nursing at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The project is governed by a Board of Directors representing educational institutions, community–based and residential long–term care facilities, and government organizations within the MAGEC South service region.
