Acquired Language & Cognitive-Communication Rehabilitation

We offer brain injury services in the following areas:

  • Aphasia
  • Cognition (attention, memory, executive functions, thinking abilities, self-regulation, metacognitive strategy instruction)
  • Stroke (cerebral vascular accident)
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Dementia
  • Primary progressive aphasia
  • Other neurologically progressive disorders (e.g., Parkinsons)

Diagnostics (Evaluation)

  • Offer comprehensive evaluation and consultation following evaluation on Tuesday afternoons during the semester (reservation is required)
  • Screening services
    • Language screening
    • Cognitive screening

Therapy Services

  • 60-minute individualized therapy sessions every week to meet client's language and/or cognitive needs
  • MSU Mankato Aphasia Conversational Group embraces the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) to support adults living with aphasia to practice communication skills in meaningful conversations. This LPAA approach fosters genuine conversational exchange by using a variety of communicative means and strategies (Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia Model). Weekly sessions are held for 1 hour and 45 minutes on Thursdays.
All services are provided by trained graduate students with licensed speech-language pathology supervisors specialized in adult rehabilitation. For more information:
